Sulphur Developmental Baseball: Preparing future baseball stars

Me and a bunch of parents got together and we wanted to get this developmental team back together. What we are doing basically is we are trying to get these kids ready for high school. Probably 90-95 percent of the guys that have played for us have made the high school team.” SDB is not directly associated with Sulphur High's Golden Tor baseball teams although they only draw their players from potential Sulphur High students. Players for the SDB must attend a Sulphur High feeder school or plan on attending Sulphur High. Although a high number of SDB team members have made the Sulphur High team in the last two year, in no way should it be construed that it is a lock that one would make the Sulphur High team after play for SDB. SDB also plans on starting its own booster club to help raise money and make the program free for all players. Currently it can cost up to $20,000 per team and with the potential of having five different teams in the future things can get a little costly. Doland Talks About Southland
The quality of the Southland Conference has not diminished with the recent changes that led to Monday’s acceptance of three Gulf Star Conference schools, says McNeese president Jack V. Doland.
Sam Houston, Southwest Texas and Stephen F. Austin were admitted into the SLC by a 5-0 vote of the league’s president.
Not only does McNeese benefit from staying Division 1-AA in football, it also enjoys the security of being in a conference, Doland said.
By being in a conference, McNeese enjoys automatic bids at the 1-A level in all sports. And the new trio of SLC schools was invited to allow the conference to keep those bids.
Mid-City Tops Lafayette
LAFAYETTE — Kerry Guillory rapped three hits to lead Mid-City to a 7-4 victory over Lafayette in the loser’s bracket of an area Little League baseball tournament.
Chad Eldridge and Tony Freelow both went two-for-three for Mid-City while Damon Higginbotham tossed a three-hitter, striking out nine batters.
South Lake Charles was led by David Blank, who hit a solo homer and a single, in the victory over Mid-City. Jason Rhorer drove in two runs with a single and Craig King, Kenny Ortego and Trevor McGinnis each had twin hits.
Chris Dunn picked up the victory for South Lake Charles.

Cameron KC Officers
Whitney Baccigalopi of Grand Chenier was installed as grand knight of Cameron Council No. 3914, Knights of Columbus, during ceremonies at the KC home in Creole Thursday night.
Baccigalopi succeeds J. Berton Daigle who has been holding this office for the past two years.
Other officers installed were: Roland U. Primeaux, deputy grand knight; T.P. Bonsall, chancellor; Joe A. O’Donnell, warden; Robert V. Landry, financial secretary; Dalton Richard, treasurer; Joe G.
