Weather Forecast: Gradual Warming Trend This Week
Another trough of low pressure has made it to the coast of Northern California and the Pacific Northwest bringing us very mild temperatures for this time of year. Redding only made it up to 79 degrees on Monday breaking the lowest maximum temperature for this date with the record standing at 83 since 1932. With a bit more sunshine Red Bluff and Chico did make it to the mid 80s. We have been watching a series of weak disturbances rotating around the base of the trough moving through Northern California bringing Trinity and Siskiyou Counties more rain. Weaverville and Hayfork saw about two tenths of an inch of rain while Mount Shasta City only saw about two hundredths. The showers have made their way into the valley from Redding to as far south as Cottonwood. Most of it is light rain and sprinkles, however, there are a few areas that have seen brief periods of moderate to heavy rain. As the trough continues to move to the northeast the chances for rain will start to diminish overnight. By Tuesday morning most of the rain will be to our north with a chance for showers in Mount Shasta. Otherwise, we can look forward to clearing skies on Tuesday with highs in the mid to upper 80s in the valley. Tuesday will be the last day with highs in the 80s as the heat over the Central U.S. migrates in our direction. This means the low 90s will return on Wednesday eventually climbing to the upper 90s to about 100 degrees by Sunday. It looks like the peak of this warming trend will be on Sunday as some of the long range forecast models are bringing down another weak trough of low pressure from the Gulf of Alaska keeping our temperatures below 100 degrees. Its still a long way out so be sure to stay tuned if you have any outdoor plans next week.Redding California Weather - News

You should check your local NWS office webpage for current warnings. We welcome comments, questions and information of the weather in your area. I will try to keep this blog updated every morning with more frequent updates during interesting weather. Quite a contrast in weather from west to east across Northern California this morning. Extensive fog and low clouds are along the coast and the low clouds have moved through the Delta and into the Northern Sacramento Valley reaching as far north as Redding and Red Bluff. The next low pressure area is dropping southward along the coast and has spread clouds inland over Trinity, Siskiyou, and parts of Shasta county. Those of you to the east....Nevada, Plumas, Butte, Lassen, and Modoc counties are sunny. The off shore low pressure area will slowly move southward today and will bring clouds to the north coast, Trinity, Siskiyou, and northern Shasta counties with a few isolated showers and possible thunderstorms. The low clouds in the Sacramento Valley will burn off rapidly this morning with temperatures today about like yesterday. Those counties to the east of the valley that are already sunny with see a few cumulus clouds over the high elevations today with temperatures a couple of degrees warmer than yesterday. The large high pressure area over the central U.S. is keeping the off shore low from moving east but on Monday the low will begin to ride northeastward over the top of the high. This means the southern end will drag across the north state. Monday and Tuesday and the north coast, Trinity, Siskiyou, Modoc, northern Lassen and northern Shasta counties will have partly cloudy skies with scattered afternoon and evening showers and possible thunderstorms. Southern Lassen, Plumas, and Nevada counties will be sunny with some afternoon cloudiness and temperatures about like today. The far north end of the Sacramento Valley will see some afternoon cloudiness with a slight chance of a shower or thunderstorm in the Redding and Shasta Lake area. The valley from Red Bluff southward will be sunny with temperatures in the mid to upper 80s. Wednesday the large scale weather pattern will begin to slowly change.
