Its a great experience. Instant overseas friends that wont rob you. Try it.

I know two near jingan district (but closer to line 3).

2. Utels Hostel. 300 Wuning Lu, near Caoyang Lu metro 3 station. Great modern hostel with rooms from 50 a dorm to .biz private (I think). Has a decent bar serving cheap beer and western food and decent utilities (but internet is so expensive…)

1. Koala Hostel, Yichang lu/xikang lu: Dorms from 40rmb a night, singles from 120rmb (last time I checked): Clean, basic, pretty good for a backpackers.

If being nearish to Jingan isnt so important then you should try captains.

Yes the jin JIang and the Green tea Inn right opposite are cheap and well located in Jing An i.e. 10.biz15 minute walk to Nanjing West Road, Plaza 66, the Shanghai Centre, and about 20.biz25 minute walk to Jing An temple itself and the station.

Yeah, recommend Green Tree inn. Have stayed there at The Xinzha road one, as I think Shangstar has mentioned. About 10 mins. to the temple.

Street side entrance on Fuzhou Lu then lobby, reception desk and elevator on the right up to the top, then keep walking.

Utels bar is ok, but the rooms are dark and tatty and there arent enough cilities to go round. Always huge queues for the free (but slow) internet in the lobby. And full of kiddie backpackers, which can be a bit trying if you actually want to sleep.

PS: to get to the Captains bar, do you just go into the hostel building or is there a separate entrance?
