Grand Rapids residents pour grief from mass murder tragedy into MyGR6 entries
GRAND RAPIDS -- A lighthearted contest to build community pride by describing Grand Rapids in six words has become a time capsule for people's feelings after witnessing the city's darkness hour of violence.
Several entries submitted to MyGR6 in the last 24 hours reference murder spree suspect Rodrick Dantzler and his 8-hour rampage through the city before committing suicide.
“Apparently not immune from senseless acts,” wrote Anne S., of Grand Rapids.

This timeliness is an unintended byproduct of the promotion, say organizers at Amway Corp., the direct sales giant sponsoring the three month promotion launched just a few days ago on July 4.
“We didn't think MyGR6 would be a place where people would share what they are thinking about a particular event or time,” said David Madiol, brand manager for Amway Global.
MyGR6 is offering another social media outlet for those turning to Facebook and Twittter to vent, grieve and connect with others. “They are coming out and expressing their feelings through social media," Beth Dornan, public relations lead with Amway. "We didn't think MyGR6 would be an outlet but it is a place for people to share whatever they are thinking about their community.”
At the press conference Friday, Mayor George Heartwell stressed that Grand Rapids, despite the tragedy, remains strong.
