Seven inducted into HCS Hall of Honor
In a light-hearted, sometimes funny and often emotional program, held on Saturday afternoon, July 2 in the HCS auditorium, the six previously announced honorees were introduced and inducted into the third annual hall of honor. This year’s recipients included Dean W. Chapman, class of 1968; Jeffrey J. Dinski, class of 1995; Charles “Charlie” Getchonis, a 1960 graduate; John V. Griffith, a member of the class of 1965; Paul Howes, class of 1977; and Kathleen Anne Mogelgaard, known to most as Katie, and a member of the class of 1991. Before bringing the ceremony to a close, Bowers announced that there was one more inductee who had not yet been announced. She introduced Dick Lenhart and stated that he and one other person were very instrumental in the formation of the HCS Hall of Honor. Bowers and Lenhart then asked Donald “Tim” Noel to come to the stage for the surprise presentation. Lenhart explained that although Noel has had some health problems in recent months he was determined that this year’s event would go off as planned. In mentioning Noel’s continuing dedication to the project, Lenhart told the audience that the first year was a difficult one financially and Noel even sold his person boat to help cover expenses. * Dean Chapman, a member of the Hamilton class of 1968, was very active on the sports scene, playing football and baseball. An accomplished musician, playing in the band and earning high ratings on two instruments at the state level, he was also a National Merit Scholarship Finalist. From high school he went to Oberlin College making the dean’s and president’s lists, and graduating in 1972 with a B.A. degree in English. He started a career in professional landscaping and after 10 years returned to the academic scene at the Columbia Theological Seminary and earned his Doctor of Divinity in 1982, becoming a minister in the Presbyterian Church. He served in this capacity for 21 years in the Orlando, Fla. area. During that time he authored two books. His work inspired him to help others who were suffering from poor health and in returned to school where he earned a medical degree from the University of Florida in 2007. Chapman was awarded the Hippocratic Award for unselfish devotion to patient care. In 2007, after long hours and at the age of 61, he began to practice internal medicine in Vermont.Iceland Symphony Orchestra At Michigan - News
