Is Shaquille O'Neal joining Charles Barkley on TNT?
, CNBC's Darren Rovell tweeted Sunday, citing unnamed sources.The NBA pregame show is the template on which many shows model themselves. But chemistry is a tricky thing. Just look at TNT's decision to take the show on the road during the NBA Playoffs where Miami Heat fans relentlessly heckled Barkley outside their home arena.
TNT wouldn't say much Sunday. "We have nothing in place at this time," said spokesman Jeff Pomeroy . So nobody's saying on the record this is soup yet. But it makes sense. Shaq is the biggest potential TV free agent -- if you don't count retired Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brett Favre . And we'd rather not.
But would the set be big enough for the egos of both Sir Charles and Shaq? Not to mention the Jet who could find himself overshadowed by the two giants?
Or does TNT has another role for O'Neal? Maybe something like the way they use Magic Johnson who's a regular TV presence but not a regular. Stay tuned.
