The Mass. Board of Library Commission announced Thursday that the West Tisbury Free Public Library on Martha's Vineyard will receive $2,982,544 while the Eastham request for $4,331,923 and the Sandwich request for $6,683,197 are both on a waiting list.
Twenty-eight libraries completed the grant round process. Through a rigorous review process, eight were identified to receive grants and fifteen were placed on a waiting list. Other libraries were asked to revise their project plans and resubmit their applications to the MBLC by January 19, 2012. Communities that have received grants will have until January 2012 to secure local funding. Wait-listed libraries will receive their grants as funds become available through the state's five-year capital plan.

Woods Hole Science Aquarium – The Woods Hole Science Aquarium is the oldest continuously operating research aquarium in the country. The aquariums house about 140 species of fish and invertebrates common to the northeast and mid Atlantic waters. It is also a rehabilitation site for sea turtles, and seals that cannot be released for medical reasons are held and displayed at Woods Hole. Kids will especially love the touch tank where they can touch animals like lobsters, crabs and sea stars. Admission is free with donations accepted.
