Bidders Pony Up for Tony Hawk's Custom Ford Mustang

The money will go benefit the Tony Hawk Foundation and the Center of Living Peace in Orange County, California. Hawk and the consigner, Wing Lam, co-founder of Wahoo Fish Taco restaurant chain, each spoke briefly about the charities before bidding started.

When the auctioneer called, “Going, going, gone” at $65,000, Hawk and Lam applauded.

"It was more than what we expected,” Lam said. “The exposure for the charities was unbelievable. I loved being Tony Hawk’s chauffeur for the day. Barrett-Jackson made it all possible for us and what they do is over the top. You have to see it in person to understand how big it is. "

Bidding was halted twice so an auction official, holding a red skateboard over his head, encouraged bidders to pony up for the charity Mustang, customized by the famed Galpin Auto Sports customizing shop in Southern California. The Galpin crew does the work on cars featured on the Pimp My Ride TV show.

They tuned the Mustang’s 5.0-liter V8 to produce a neck snapping 425 horsepower that sings an assertive exhaust note through a Flowmaster exhaust system.

Seating is done in high-quality Katzkin leather and a cutting edge JP Audio system will indeed rock the new, as yet unidentified, owner.

The body work oozes aggression. Galpin fitted the car with a Street Scene Body Kit with upper and lower side scoops, custom grille, and tinted lights. DUB contributed a set of TIS three-piece wheels fitted with Pirelli tires. For even more attitude, the low ride height is accomplished by Ford Racing lowering springs.

The Mustang wears a customized paint scheme that incorporates a “hawkized” logo on the hood and a Tony Hawk monogram emblazed on the side.

Hawk commissioned Galpin Auto Sports to make the 2011 Mustang into a one-of-a-kind street rod with the intent of auctioning it to benefit his Tony Hawk Foundation, which supports and empowers youth through events, grants, recreational programs and technical assistance.

He put the Mustang on auction last November and Lam bought it to auction and fund the Center of Living Peace in Orange County, California, his favorite charity.

The “hawkized” Mustang was one of eight cars auctioned at the Barrett-Jackson event to benefit charities.

Thought I would throw this on here as an example of when things turn out way better than expected. Built a new exhaust system over the winter confident I would pick up a tenth, hoping for two. Truck is a 91 shortbox with a hydraulic roller 350, old system was shorty headers, DS pipe did a 90 turn right behind crossmember, continued across slightly downward to clear the tailshaft housing then up and straight into the PS pipe. About a foot behind the T it stepped up from 2.5" to 3" then through a huge flowmaster muffler and tailpipe exiting PS right in front the bumper. System was well built (welds) with all mandrel bent pipe, just poorly designed. Reused the headers and tailpipe, bought some mandrel U bends and a length of straight and started piecing it back together. DS now does about a 45 turn, angles across and meets up with PS pipe into a flowmaster collector( 2 x 2.5 into one 3") then through a dump with an electric cutout and through a 40 series flowmaster. At the same time I made a two piece design out of my crossmember so the tranni can now be removed without touching the exhaust. Sounds pretty good open or closed although maybe a little too loud with just single 40. Best numbers before...12.46@107, after...11.99@111.
