Boating safety class to be offered in Foley
FOLEY, Alabama -- The Perdido Bay Power Squadron, a unit of the United States Power Squadrons, will offer a Boating Safety class July 28 at the Coleman Outlet Store in Foley. The course will begin at 9 a.m. and run until 5 p.m.
The course meets the Alabama boating license requirements mandated for operating any kind of watercraft in state waters. The class provides information on getting started in safe boating, what is legally needed, the “rules to live by” and a chart navigation overview.
Instruction is provided free by experienced members of the squadron. To participate, preregister and pick up materials at the Coleman Outlet Store or Blue Water Ship’s Stores, both in Foley. The cost is $50, which covers all class materials, including a textbook, an instructional video on chart navigation, two CDs and lunch for one person. If multiple family members are attending, only one book is necessary and a small fee will be charged for additional lunches. Class will be limited to 20 students.
This course is designed to provide considerably more information than legal minimums and is intended for those who want to significantly enhance their safety and enjoyment of recreational boating.
