Scott to Push Immigration Law Again

Immigration was the most contentious issue of the spring legislative session. Workers and activists crowded the hallways for weeks. Their presence convincing lawmakers not to do anything.

But Governor Rick Scott calls the lack of action a mistake. He says he will try again in January. “I still believe that if you are here illegally and you are violating our laws, we ought to be able to ask you if you are legal or not.”

But Florida only needs to look north, to Georgia, to find out what will happen here if the state decides to start randomly checking id’s. “Even though a tough new immigration law here in Georgia has been put on hold, Farmers in the peach state are having trouble finding workers.”

Many migrants are refusing to work in Georgia. Immigration activist Kathy Bird says the Georgia law has been an economic disaster. “Its a matter of perception of having such an anti immigrant stance, forcing people to move themselves and their families out of there, and there have been hundreds of millions of dollars in losses in agriculture.”

The activists say they have been meeting with lawmakers since May and say they will be back in the Capitol in force if Scott persists in bringing immigration back a second year.

For his part, Scott says he doesn’t want to do anything that could cost the state jobs, which may lead him to rethink his immigration push. Sure I would. If I could get free health care, free education, welfare, subsidized housing..etc. Farmers complain because Americans won't do the work for practically nothing. If everyone had the benefits these criminals are getting, we could afford to work for $5 an hour. Instead, we pay taxes that are used to pay for anchor babies. Close the borders.

Third Quarter Dbacks Review: Kelly Johnson « Venom Strikes | An ...

With now just under 40 games left in the regular season, we are in the home stretch, the final quarter of the 2011 season. It is time to review the current Arizona Diamondbacks roster to look at what they’ve accomplished, where they are now, and what they can provide, if anything, in the final six-plus weeks of the National League West pennant race. Next up: Kelly Johnson

What he’s accomplished: Has he really accomplished anything this season?  He is hitting .213 with 18 HR and 49 RBI

What he’s doing now: Striking out a lot.  He was moved this past week from second in the batting order to eighth.  Not sure if that was a move more because of punishment, attempt for improvement, or because other hitters are producing more often?  He’s sat out some games lately.  For an everyday played like Johnson, that is saying something about his performance.

What he means to the Dbacks run to the pennant: Still, he will surprise you with power when you least expect it.  He still provides a veteran presence.  I think his contributions down the stretch are going to rely heavily on what others are doing.  It’s not a given he will be in there every day at second base.
