So many injuries have struck the Scranton/ Wilkes-Barre Yankees lineup this season, the team didn't have enough room on the roster it handed to the media every day to even list them all among the active players.
So now, there's a brief section toward the bottom of the page, and in it, a whopping nine players are listed.
Pitchers Tim Norton, David Phelps, Mark Prior, and Kevin Whelan. Infielders Mike Lamb and Kevin Russo. Outfielders Dan Brewer and Justin Maxwell. And, of course, catcher Jesus Montero.
With the All-Star break coming, the countdown to some of the Yankees' walking wounded returning can begin.
The Yankees' ace pitcher, Phelps (right shoulder), threw for the first time since going on the disabled list this week, and he is expected back within the next two weeks.
Although he withdrew from this week's Triple-A All-Star Game, closer Whelan (right shoulder) also seems to be close to a return. He threw batting practice before Saturday's game.
Montero (back stiffness) was placed on the disabled list mostly as a precaution, manager Dave Miley said, noting that with the All-Star break coming up, there was no sense in rushing him back to the lineup. It is not anticipated that he will miss much time after the break.
Prior (groin) and Norton (shoulder) are rehabbing in Tampa. Prior seems close to a return, though a date has not been established.
Ugliest uni ever?
They set an attendance record July 3 at Waterfront Park in Trenton, the cap to the magical weekend when Derek Jeter played Double-A baseball on his way back to the big leagues and his chase for 3,000 hits.
In August, the Thunder will remember that day again, giving Derek Jeter bobblehead dolls to the first 2,000 fans who walk through the gates Aug. 19.
Perhaps they should consider painting a different uniform onto him than they one he wore Sunday.
The Thunder's patriotic July 4 uniforms, featuring horizontal red and white stripes on the shirt, with white stars covering blue sleeves, were roundly panned by the national media after Jeter wore them in his final rehab game.
Yahoo! Sports called them "the ugliest uniform ever." ESPN had some chuckles, too, picturing the great Jeter wearing what they deemed outlandish gear.
Even Yankees general manager Brian Cashman couldn't hide his dislike for the jerseys.
"We had a tough loss against the Mets (Sunday), so I was like 'Derek I'm going to take a picture of you in this uniform here and I'm going to lift our guys' spirits," Cashman said. "I'm also going to send the message: Try to do everything you can to not get injured so you don't wind up in a minor league rehab assignment wearing a uniform looking like this." Ouch.
