Education Realty Trust to launch University of Alabama housing community

Campus near the Schools of Law and Nursing. Construction is scheduled to start immediately with a scheduled opening in 2012, Education Realty Trust stated in a release.

The development will be jointly owned by Memphis-based Education Realty Trust and Edwards Companies.

Edwards Companies, a privately held, family-owned developer, is providing development and design services and Education Realty, the majority owner, will manage the community once completed.

Regions Bank is providing the financing, the company said.

The yet-named development will feature 774 beds in 337 units with a variety of one-, two-, three- and four-bedroom apartments.

It will feature a clubhouse with movie theater, fitness center, study space, game lounge, computer lab, great room with kitchen and staff offices. The grounds will feature a large swimming pool with outdoor patio complete with grills and a picnic area.

Education Realty Trust (NYSE: EDR) is one of America’s largest owners, developers and managers of collegiate housing. EDR is a self-administered and self-managed real estate investment trust that owns or manages 56 communities in 23 states.
