Organizers make city a weekend destination
HAMILTON — Mark your calendars for Saturday, July 23 — it’s going to be a busy one around Hamilton.
In conjunction with the 57th Annual Antique and Classic Car Parade, the Lindenwald Civic and Main Street Area associations are hosting their own events during and after the parade.
LCA is hosting its first block party from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the 2300 block of Pleasant Avenue. Along Main Street in Armstead Park will be gospel music throughout the day from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., said Cynthia Teague, president of Main Street.
“I want to tie in all-day events to increase attendance and make it more attractive to go downtown for a day,” Teague said.
The traveling car parade will display from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Hamilton West Shopping Center on Brookwood Avenue. At 1 p.m. the parade will travel down Main Street onto Pleasant Avenue, through Lindenwald and into Fairfield.
Alfred Hall, LCA event coordinator, said there will be music all day, games, such as Diecast cars for children, a food court, crafts, and fresh produce for sale.
“I will have my fresh produce there and have invited all the farmers market vendors to join us,” Hall said, as the market runs from 7 a.m. to noon downtown.
Hall said any Lindenwald businesses, churches and organizations are invited to participate as a vendor. Current participants include Heaven Sent, Tiny to Tots, and new business Devastation Paintball. The Golden Steppers from Partners in Prime will perform a 1950s dance.
Also happening is the 41st Annual St. Ann’s Fiesta from 6 to 11:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday at St. Ann Catholic School, 3064 Pleasant Ave. Joyce Cepluch, event coordinator, said it includes live music, food, such as homemade sausage, children’s games, beer and poker.
“It’s a family reunion for a lot of people,” Cepluch said.
Spirit Of The Pacific Islands dance studio is hosting its annual charity luau from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Great Miami Event Center, 333 S. Second St.
Luau tickets are $20 for adults. Attending the luau, which benefits non-profit Honor Flight, is Navajo Code Talker Bill Toledo, one of four remaining from the original 29.
“There are good grass roots efforts by people passionate about the city,” Hall said. “My belief is you need to involve citizens, businesses, universities and churches to make a community vibrant.”
Teague said she’s interested in more joint-venture projects between business districts, especially given the proximity of German Village to Main and High streets.
